A Range of Acceptable Standards in Medicine

While my standards, as well as the Medical Board's "standards", their 5/7/04 statement "California Physicians and Medical Marijuana", are high quality and very protective, I want to re-iterate my clear assertion that:

"These are my own standards and should not be construed as criteria for any other physician practicing within the scope of his or her training and license."

As I told the Medical Board on July 30, 2004 about their 5/7/04 statement:

"This is a good statement of what is called the "medical center work-up" and a good standard to strive towards when patients have access to affordable health care, and feel confidence in the system."

The fact is that there is a wide range of acceptable standards in most areas of medicine, and this has to be remembered.  It must also be remembered when talking about doctors being accused of "departures from the standard of care", that the standard of care in California for many patients is that they have NO care, and that doctors who give SOME care in the form of a medical-legal consultation for cannabis should not be punished for not providing ALL care, any more than a dermatologist would be.

Other standards that take into account that some people have no access to affordable primary care: CCRMG's Minimum Practice Standards and history.
