MedBoardWatch.com Newsletter

The is the first of what I hope to be a monthly newsletter to keep
doctors, attorneys, patients, and patient advocates better informed
of what is going on in the Medical Cannabis community.

As you may know, my article "Implementation of the Compassionate Use Act In a Family Medical
Practice: Seven Years' Clinical Experience" co-authored with Mariavittoria Mangini, PhD, FNP

http://www.ccrmg.org/journal/04spr/medicalpractice.html

was designed to make MORE doctors feel comfortable making safe and
appropriate recommendations for medical cannabis.

Unfortunately some doctors and clinics have rejected the appropriate
evaluation of cannabis patients in favor of a 3 to 15-minute "fig
leaf" (i.e.: it doesn't cover much) and opened up offices next to
dispensaries, and are making recommendations with no credible medical
evaluation. Their poor reputation in this regard has contributed to
a backlash in some areas, and this has contributed to many cities and
counties putting moritoriums on granting permits to new
dispensaries. Those most affected are California's seriously ill
medical cannabis patients.

I have even heard of some doctors who do "group evaluations". This
will look pretty interesting in a court of law!

Also some are having Physician Assistants (P.A.s) do the evaluation,
and give out pre-signed recommendations.

Because of some doctors embarrassingly low standards, I did a survey
last year of the 30 Medical Cannabis doctors whom I knew (24
responded), and published it on my website at:

http://www.medboardwatch.com/survey.htm

I hope this is helpful.

I am soliciting feedback from patients, and patient advocates, on
their experiences with the various medical cannabis physicians.

My intention is to raise the quality of medical cannabis evaluations,
and improve the protection afforded to legitimate patients by
cannabis recommending doctors, the majority of whom practice good
medicine.

Avoid the rest.

peace and health,
Frank H. Lucido M.D.
